Lavender Milk
I love being in the kitchen. It's definitely a central point of gathering in our home and one of the things I enjoy is finding new ways to incorporate herbs and flowers into my cooking. I first came across the idea of lavender milk a few years ago, probably from Pinterest, and thought it sounded delicious. So, with that, I bring you this simple recipe for lavender milk, which is delicious on it's own or it goes really well with chamomile tea.
You will need:
- 1 cup milk, I used almond
- 1/2 tsp dried culinary lavender*
- 1/2 tsp dried chamomile
- 1/4 tsp ashwaganda powder (optional)
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional)
*make sure you use food safe lavender as not all store bought lavender would be safe for consumption
Add the milk, lavender, chamomile, aswaganda, and vanilla to a saucepan and whisk together.
Warm over medium heat on the stove, stirring occasionally. A mild simmer with a little steam is best but you don't want it to boil. This will take about five minutes.
When ready, strain through a fine sieve. You may need to do this a couple of times to get all the plant bits out.
Pour into a mug and add the honey or syrup, stirring to incorporate. Optionally, you can froth with a mini frother to create a soft lavender foam.
You can let it simmer a little longer if you want a stronger tasting beverage. I left mine on for about seven minutes and I didn't add any sweetener as I felt the vanilla made it sweet enough but this is of course up to you depending on your sweet tooth.
Serve and enjoy!
